Okay. We're still both on the truth serum, so...how much do you know about Simon?

Um, this and that? He's from the same place as us, but he's played this game before. His dad was in jail, and he was falsely accused of murder--who hasn't been, right?--and his dog's really cute. Rohan didn't really care for him, but he seems nice enough. ...Why?

[yatagarasu]

Yeah, he didn't outright kill anyone that time he was accused of murder.

But...but he incited several people to turn against each other and try to kill each other. He's out for revenge, and he even used me so Mr. Edgeworth would be dragged into one of those cases.

[ibedeadpeople]

Oh... Like, "oh I am so angry, I'm gonna wring your neck!"-try to kill each other? Or...?

[yatagarasu]

No. He made it so they would straight up murder each other.

One time, I was out at Gourd Lake, and Simon drugged and kidnapped me, setting me up so one of his enemies would try to pin a murder on me. I think he predicted that once I was involved, Mr. Edgeworth would step in and make sure Simon's enemy went to jail...not knowing that Simon was pulling the strings.

Oh... That's-- Oh man... What happened after that?

[yatagarasu]

I fell into a trapdoor when I found myself on the top of Grand Tower, and I lost my memories. I was so convinced I was the murder suspect and everyone was telling Mr. Edgeworth that if he continued defending me, he'd...he'd lose his prosecutor's badge.

...He resigned.

He returned to the Prosecutor's Office after that, but only after Simon was arrested for a real murder he committed.

Oh wow... I had no idea all that stuff was going on... Are you okay?

[yatagarasu]

I got my memories back, but at that time, although we had the real murderer arrested, Shelly de Killer warned us of a mastermind behind the cases we had solved so far.

...Yeah, Simon even hired De Killer.

So much happened the past several days before I came here...or rather, came back here, Maya. Simon was behind everything. He pretends to be all scared and meek, but deep down he's vengeful and manipulative, and would use you for his own gains.

I asked him... He told me he didn't really trust Engarde. Maybe because he'd taken so many pages from his playbook. I can't believe-- [she sits down suddenly, out of strength] Why tell me all this now?

[yatagarasu]

[Kay sits down beside her.]

Two reasons: One, there's not a lot of us left. I figured I have to warn you that Simon will use anyone at all as his pawn, even you.

Second, we're under the truth serum. You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you Simon was a manipulative jerk.

[ibedeadpeople]

...I mean, a lot of people are. But that doesn't always mean they're a bad person.

[let's all please ignore my tendency to cover for bad dads]

I asked for his help with Engarde. Do you think that was a bad idea?

[yatagarasu]

[Without missing a beat:]

Yes.

...I have to admit, Simon was more of a victim. He lost all hope in the legal system, so he turned to revenge. Still, I won't forget the stuff he did to me, Mr. Edgeworth, and our friends.

Just...be careful around him, okay? Planning with him doesn't mean he's going to cover for you in the future.

I know. Even if I hadn't, I can't trust anyone's word, not with all that's been happening. But I can't go back, can I? If I let him know that I know what I know now, who knows what he'll do to me? Who knows what he'll do to you for spilling the beans?

[yatagarasu]

[Kay just lets out a short, almost cynical laugh.]

Don't let him know. But I suspect that after today, more people will know.

Anyway...if I die, that's one less problem for him.

[It almost sounds like she's expecting the worst.]

... ... [takes her hand and grips it tightly]

[yatagarasu]

[She clutches Maya's hand just as tightly.]

We better go back before Simon gets too suspicious. I bet he already suspects I've been telling others about him even before this round.
