dream 004 ☄ do you believe in magic?

Effects: Viewing or interacting with this dream will take you into the Harry Potter universe - or create an Ace Attorney costume change. Characters can enter and interact with the dream at any point before Kay wakes up, and/or react accordingly after she wakes up.
Warnings: This dream is currently rated G for GEEZ HOW LONG HAS KAY BEEN ASLEEP

Kay walks out of a classroom, with her books under one arm and her wand in her other hand. As she walks with her fellow students, a small black bird with three legs appears and disappears before her eyes with each flick of the wand, hovering just in front of her face like a tiny feathered helicopter. The bird vanishes one last time as Kay puts down her wand and hurries after the others, who seemed to be teenagers. Older teenagers, possibly nearing adulthood. All of them were in the same long black robes, marked by the Ravenclaw insignia - a blue shield with a bronze eagle.

Ravenclaw. Kay sometimes wondered why she was in Ravenclaw, if she wasn't a genius, let alone a bookworm. She waves her wand once, and the three-legged bird appears in front of her again. It squawks, and sparks issue from its beak before Kay banishes it to wherever it came. Then she tries sketching out a key made of sparks in the air. It shimmers before fading away.

Unlike the other students, who begin taking detours, walking up stairs or turning corners on their own or with small groups, Kay stops in her tracks for a moment to look up at the ceiling, at the pillars that supported that great ceiling, and the large stone staircase in front of her that had started to move slowly toward her, as if sensing that she wanted to go up, or telling her to go up.

She thinks for a moment while waiting for it to slide into place, then takes the stairs. As she does so, the steps begin moving again with a low rumbling noise, and Kay finds herself grabbing for the banister with her wand hand for the ride. It is only a short ride, however, and when the staircase stops, she climbs the last few steps into another great corridor lined with portraits.

It doesn't take her long to enter the library, where other students dressed as she was were either seated at tables or combing the great shelves completely filled with books. As she steps inside and starts combing the shelves, her eyes are instantly drawn to that one particular section, set apart from the rest for good reason.

The Restricted Section.

It had always piqued her interest. What kinds of books were in there? Was it really true that some of them screamed if someone took them out without permission? More importantly, what could she learn from those books? Kay wanted to just walk up to the section, step over the rope that separated it from the rest of the library...but it probably wasn't going to be that easy. Maybe there were spells guarding it too. Maybe the rope was more than just some old rope, and yes, maybe the books did scream and sound the alarms.

But there was only one way to find out for sure. She glances around, and walks as quietly as she can toward the back of the library, knowing full well that she didn't have a note from any teacher or even permission from the librarian. Kay holds out her wand, amazed at the things she could think of. Smoke screen? Invisibility? A flurry of crows to keep everyone busy? She tries to walk faster, keeping up the innocent image of a student who knew exactly what she was looking for and where it could be found, drawing closer and closer toward the Restricted Section -

And then she trips. But instead of falling right onto the floor, she keeps on falling, and she instantly raises her wand...

[...and then you hear a thump as the dream ends, followed by the clatter of her Dreamberry. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Kay Faraday struggling in the iron grip of...the blankets. For a moment only her head and hat are visible.

Wait, hat?

Yes, she has a black, pointed wizard hat. Give her a few moments to notice what has happened as she disentangles herself.]

...ow! Ugh...how long was I out? I can't believe I've been sleeping on the job -

[The blankets are finally off, and this time, Kay is seated on the floor, clad in the same Hogwarts robes she was wearing in her dream. Her white shirt and a tie with blue and white stripes are visible under said robes, and it seems that the only item left from her usual outfit would be her pink knee socks. She glances down at her new clothes, examines her robes, and tries to take them off (well, she still has the white shirt and a skirt underneath). But all efforts are futile. Next, Kay attempts to tug her hat off her head, but with no success.]

Wh...what's going on?! I'm not still dreaming, right?

[Kay reaches for her Dreamberry, rubbing her eyes.]

No way! October already?! Does this mean this is some kind of Halloween trick?

[OOC: This can be action for anyone in Edgeworth's apartment, because yes, Kay fell asleep at his place again. This time, on his bed.]

I sure do! [She nods excitedly.]

In that case, a quick peek couldn't hurt.

[He easily steps on over to the restricted area, earning little more than a smile and a wave from the librarian. Theory proven: he is indeed allowed to be there. With so many books to choose from, however, the prosecutor simply doesn't know where to begin.]

Hmm...

[And Kay stays behind, knowing that the same librarian who smiled and waved at Edgeworth would tell her off if she put a single toe out of line.

She watches him with interest, though.]

[Edgeworth soon finds himself particularly interested in one very unique-looking book. It's so old that most of the golden writing on the spine has rubbed off to the point where he can't even decipher the title. Hesitantly, he reaches for it, as though somehow drawn to the book against his will.

It takes some effort to remove the dust-covered volume from its placement on the tightly-packed shelf. Once it is in his hands, Edgeworth hesitates, not opening it just yet. He looks up to Kay, silently signaling to her that she may approach to take a look at the book as well. A simple nod to the librarian, and the woman looks away, back to her work, arranging some books onto another shelf with the assistance of her wand and a convenient levitating spell of some sort.]

[Kay quickly gets the signal, and walks over to him...far too excited to be just another student being called over by just another professor.]

[Once she's there, he cracks open the cover, far more eager to learn the contents of the book than he thought he would find himself. Immediately, two things happen.

As soon as the cover is lifted away from the first page, something in the book pushes defiantly against the cover and forces itself open. The page morphs into a three-dimensional face made of paper, haggard and worn. Where there should be eyes, the paper sinks in to form deep, hollow sockets. The agonized-looking face then bellows forth an ear-piercing wail.

Edgeworth no longer likes this world of witches and wizards. At all.

Startled, he struggles to retain his grip on the book as the face within it violently throws itself from side to side. It doesn't seem to like him either.]

Aaaaah! [Kay lets out a scream, drops her things except for her wand, and holds it out in front of the book. She yells out a spell, completely forgetting that they were in a library.

A jet of bright pink light blasts from the wand, straight toward the face of the book.]

[Just when Edgeworth thought things could not get any worse... Kay goes and does that. It's just too much for him by this point, the screaming demonic paper face, the pink whatever it is coming toward him and the book, and the yelling and raucous laughter of the other occupants of the library. He is done, he doesn't want to be here anymore, and he most certainly does not want to be holding this book anymore.]

NNNGHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH--!!

[He lets it go, tossing the book in front of himself. It can stay on the floor for all he cares.]

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Kay fires another blast toward the book in an attempt to shut it - and to shut it up. The face seems to grimace in agony as the second jet of pink light hits it...]

I hope this works...Mr. Edgeworth, I thought you were allowed in the Restricted Section!
prosecutes: Your argument is invalid. (D:<)

[Since he doesn't know how to use his wand, Edgeworth just takes a step back and watches as Kay hurls spells at it.]

This section can stay restricted! How do we leave the dream?

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Kay lowers her wand, backing away as the book starts hopping toward her, clearly not pleased with what she has done.] We wake up, I guess? That's the only way I can think o - ow!

[After backing up one too many steps and a bit too quickly, Kay trips on the hem of her robes and falls backward.]
prosecutes: (Enough with the whip already)

[Dream Interaction]

[personal profile] prosecutes 2011-12-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
In that case, I would very much like to wake up now.

[Nope, it apparently doesn't work that way.]

Well?!

[Yes, yelling at nothing will help him accomplish this. Only not really. It will, however, get the angered librarian's attention. Avoiding the creepy book, he walks over to Kay and offers a hand to help her up.]

Kay, we need to leave this place before we can do any more damage... and certainly before it can do any damage to us! [Dream or not, this is all getting very creepy.]

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-10 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kay takes his hand gratefully and gets back onto her feet.]

Y-yeah, good idea! I'm pretty sure I'm not awake yet!

[This is probably the most ridiculous question, but]

How do we wake up?

[It's her dream, she should know. Because Edgeworth certainly doesn't.]

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe we could pinch ourselves? [Sorry, even Kay isn't quite sure. In fact, she'll try pinching her arm right now.] Or there's an exit somewhere?
prosecutes: (Prosecution is ready your honor)

[Dream Interaction]

[personal profile] prosecutes 2011-12-18 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll wait for results on that one before trying it himself.]

Is it working?

[He does, however, begin looking around for an exit. That sounds far more reasonable and less painful.]

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
...it didn't. I don't even know if doing it again will help.

[Kay sighs in frustration, and points toward the entrance of the library.] We'd better leave before everyone decides to curse us or something.
prosecutes: (Uncertain)

[Dream Interaction]

[personal profile] prosecutes 2011-12-19 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I can't say that I care for the looks those other instructors are giving me. [Even if they're not real, he does not like the feeling of others mocking him.] There might even be a literal exit from the dream.

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well, what're we waiting for? Let's try the library exit! [She gathers up her things (she had forgotten to pick them up), including her wand.]
prosecutes: (GOTTA GO FAST)

[Dream Interaction]

[personal profile] prosecutes 2011-12-19 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
This way!

[Edgeworth has nothing to grab that isn't already on his person, so he leads the way to the exit. They're getting unhappy looks from just about everyone now, but he feels it's best to ignore those for as long as possible.]

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Kay follows close behind, wand out, just in case. She doesn't look at anyone either - instead, she focuses on the doors that would lead them outside. Hopefully, to wakefulness.]
prosecutes: Your argument is invalid. (Detective! Did you write this in crayon?)

[Dream Interaction]

[personal profile] prosecutes 2011-12-20 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Blast! It's locked!

[Of course it is. Why can't anything in this dream be simple? Kay had better know the Alohomora spell, because Edgeworth certainly doesn't; he's patting down his robes and looking for a key, believing it to be the most logical thing to do now.]

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-21 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
What?! [Kay halts in front of the door, and tries it herself. She instinctively reaches for her bag - only to realize that she didn't have her usual bag with her in this dream. But she had something better, probably.] Wait, I can handle that!

[She waves her wand - with a little more flourish than was necessary - and says the spell loud and clear. Kay would wonder later how she was able to remember that spell. Oh, wait, maybe she heard it from someone on her way to the library...]

Alohomora!
prosecutes: (idk my bff Wright?)

[Dream Interaction]

[personal profile] prosecutes 2011-12-23 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Patting down his robes revealed a Gameboy that he must have confiscated from a student. That's not very helpful at all, is it? It's a good thing Kay knows what she's doing. Then again, he doesn't really know what she just did, only that it was a spell that hit the lock.]

Did that do it?

[Dream Interaction]

[identity profile] dedikayted.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Kay grabs the door handles - and manages to heave them open.]

Yes! I guess I can do magic after all!
